Breastfeeding is something I’ve rarely heard preached about in church. Perhaps this is due to Christian modesty amongst many traditions , perhaps patriarchy, perhaps because of the Greco-Roman divide between body, mind and soul. Our western religion/ faith is a very cerebral one and yet at the heart of the sacrament is the very embodied experience of eating and drinking. Whatever your personal belief about what happens during the Eucharist the very act of receiving bread and grape juice ( fermented or not), the body and the blood , the life force of Christ, involves being nourished.
